Last time I checked school was for learning. If the kids are distracting you then you are not being given a fair chance at getting a good education.

Transfering schools probably won’t be a solution because you’re going to find the same thing at other schools.

You should sit down with your parents and talk to them about this if you truly want to do it.

They will probably say no at first, but if you really look into it and learn about homeschooling and how it works then they might change their mind.

The first thing they need to know is that you can still be homeschooled even if they can’t school you themselves. I know kids who’s parents would set up the assignments before they left for work and the kids had to complete them during the day. If there’s something you need to be taught, then they can teach you when they get home. Also there are tons of dvd’s you could watch that would teach you. Or, there is the option of online schooling. Also, one option would be to hire a private tutor but I don’t see the need for this. Teaching yourself is often a good way to learn. If you’re teaching yourself, then you are learning the way that is easiest for you.

You seem very smart and mature and if you ask me you don’t belong sitting in school with immature kids all day who are preventing you from learning.

Body & soul, stick to answering the question, and without name calling please.

Kiddo,

Your first step should be to discuss this with your parents, or the person who is going to be your primary teacher/instructor.

Second do some research about home schooling since it is not at all like doing school at home.

Home schooling is where you set your own schedule, and decide what it is you would like to study.

You, an your parents pick the books, and materials needed, and plan a course of action (syllabus).

Now you can do school at home, there are many states that offer on-line schooling, charter, or other virtual options the choice is yours.

For much of the information needed to make an informed decision if home schooling is for you, and your family visit the following two web sites and do some checking first.

http://www.hslda.org

http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/

Grab a cup of coffee, tea, or a large coke because you will be surfing this site for a while — it is sometimes referred to as the information overload site — but you will know a lot about home schooling if you read it.

Good luck.

You are a smart person. You sound motivated and know what you want. When my cousin was 16 he home schooled himself by studying for the GED. When he was 17 he went to airplane mechanic school. He knew what he wanted and went and got it. Do you know anyone else who is home schooled? If you do you could talk to their parents to get some ideas of what to do. There are online schools. There are also curriculum’s that at your age could be done independently. A.C.E. School of Tomorrow is one that I use with my kids. Whatever you choose, make sure you are tested to start in the grade level you are in. Most home school curriculum’s are different than public school. Go for it!!

There is more to school that grades. Learning social skills, meeting and getting along with people you typically wouldn’t interact with. Learning about yourself, your strengths and weaknesses. I have reservations about the school my son is in but I realize that he will learn more about life in school than I can teach him at home.
