Any homeschoolers in Los Angeles County, CA?

Only homeschoolers answer, please. We are considering moving to Lancaster area, and I want to know how L.A. County is in regards to being harsh on homeschoolers. Anyone here with personal experiences? I currently live in San Bernardino County, and want to know if L.A.C. is harder to homeschool in before deciding to move there.

I was homeschooled my entire life in LA county and knew/knew of hundreds of other homeschool families in the area. I never heard of anyone having problems, except when there was a vindictive relative involved. Of course, if the public school gets your name somehow and there’s a someone in charge who hates homeschoolers, then you might have issues, but that’s rare, especially if you stay away from PS programs. If you’re not already a member, I would suggest joining the Home School Legal Defense Association (hslda.org).

Homeschool Association of California has five county contacts listed for LA County. I’m sure any one of these ladies will be able to answer your question and help you find a local homeschool support group that’s a good match for your family.

I teach home school in Calabasas and Woodland Hills. My younger kids are a part of Las Virgines School District.

They get a list of California Standards they have to meet per month and all of the paperwork required to fill out in order to keep track of what you have taught your child. Also, they give lists of books and materials you can buy to aid in teaching your child. Then you give your paperwork monthly to the

My older student is in Laurel Springs. It is a really good program, he just recently switched and I really like the support, the materials and the curriculum. If you want to check them out go to http://www.laurelsprings.com/

Now, as far as home school in the area where you plan on moving, there should be several choices to choose from.

I would start here: http://www.lancaster.k12.ca.us/ and inquire about home school programs in that area.

I hope this helped! If you have any more questions, please feel free to e mail me.

~Edit~

If you are looking into using your own curriculum, I think you might run into a little bit of trouble. If you do get the list of standards, you can teach them however you want, you just have to get everything to the auditor on time. I havent had any experience with any kind of private program that just works with the state. I wish I did. Good luck in your search!
