What can I do against a collection that I have from a school?

I enrolled in school and attended for about two classes, after finding out i didnt qualify for much financial aid and loans, I stopped going to the school. A couple of weeks later I received a letter saying that I owe the school $2,649. Am I liable to pay this? Is there anything I can do? Thank you

You may well be liable, you signed on, and were allotted a students place.

If you do not go the school is out one space, and may not be able to fill it.

That depends on how you stopped going to school. If you just stopped going to class, then yes you are liable to pay. There is no way of them telling if you went to class or not. If you actually dropped the class, then there should have been a full or partial refund. If you withdrew from the class after the drop date, then you will not be eligeble for a refund.

Did you officially withdraw or just stop attending? If you just stopped attending, you are responsible to pay for the classes. If you officially withdrew, you probably are being asked to pay for the part of the semester that you did attend. I withdrew the middle of a semester once and still had to pay for the first half of it.

Sounds like you could be legally responsible, BUT, I would check with legal aid. Very inexpensive, (some are even ex-judges that advise you)

Take care of it, or it will follow you forever.

Good luck!!
