What are some good fundraising ideas for a school and scout project?

I am a senior girl scout going for my gold. I have bronze and silver and I want this one to go with a bang. The bronze we did something with the buddy shelter, for our silver we did a fashion show against abuse. Both were lots of fun, but for this one I need plenty of service hours and for most of my service hours I want to help my elementary school. So I need an idea that can be run by a student (I am a very good organizer and leader in this sort of thing so difficult is fine), I don’t need a sponser, I don’t want to sell anything. I just want a fundraiser that the products needed can be homemade and bring in lots of money so I can split the money with the school. As this is a girl scout thing there is something written about not being able to work for someone, but its okay to donate a sum after the event is over. So please if you have any tips or ideas please let me know!

Thank you for your input, you don’t know what it means to me,

First I’d like to say good job! I was a girl scout and earned my silver award, it’s a great feeling helping others achieve their goals! The recycling idea listed above is a great one to do. We had a group do this with grade schoolers and it was great to see how many participated. I wish you the best of luck!

I worked in schools for years, and two things come to mind:

1) one child of a teacher provided drinks in the refrigerator for staff people. The kid probably paid 25 cents per drink, but sold them to us on the “honor system” for a dollar each. We were thirsty, and bought them!

2) You could start recycle bins at every school, & go weekly to each school on a schedule to collect the various recycle stuff & take it & sell it to a recycle company. Then, take half the cash to the school & half to the project you’re supporting.

3) You could start a project of hand crafts (small embroidery, knitting, crocheted Christmas & Valentine’s Day & Mother’s Day & patriotic gift items), then sell those at a price far above the cost of the materials involved. Lots of girls could get involved in that, and maybe you could involve the Special Ed. classes, and the Special Ed. kids could get their part of the profits (rather than the whole school) for a special party for them…That would be helping all around!!

Good luck & Hooray for Girl Scouts!!

You could do a bake sale, raffle, or car wash to raise money for the Mud Walk. I’ve done many car washes to raise money for various things, and I’ve found that if you make it a “donation only” car wash, people tend to give more, especially if you tell them what the money goes toward. For the raffle, you could ask local, independently owned shops to donate items or for people around the community to donate items and hold a raffle. Another idea is to hold a yard sale. My school’s Spanish department held a yard sale, where all the Spanish students donated clothes and various items and they had a large yard sale in the parking lot. People came from all over the county and they raised quite a bit. Hope these help!
