Student loans?

I have: Stafford loans and private loans. Is there a way to consolidate both together? I need to lower my payments as much as possible. I’m getting that I cannot put the Stafford loans and private loans together. Is that true?

john is half right:

you can consolidate the loans with the same company to get one payment, but they will still be separate loans. any company offering 1 loan is not helping you.

what is your term? rate? there are not many companies that offer consolidation…

i work at nelnet, and the rates range from 8.5% to 13% based on credit, but the term is from 25-30 years.

see where you are at now before signing with anyone to see how you stack up. i think citibank also offers consolidation, AES, sallie mae (but they have horrible customer service), CFS suntech. to name a few.

shop around, ask if there are origination fees or prepayment fees. i cant speak for anyone else, but nelnet doesnt have any.

if you want to get a quote, or ask ?’s, the number is 877.303.0523

shop around for the best deal, good luck.

Typically you cant, or I say you shouldnt, however there are some organizations out there that will. BUT DONT DO IT. Remember consolidation is based on a weighted average. Your stafford rate will increase as a result of merging your higher private loan rates together. I would try to manage with what you currently have, though it may be tough. You can look into a repayment options with your current lender. This will reduce your monthly payment for some time depending on the option you choose, but you will pay more of the loan in the long run. Again, try to stay with what you have. Sorry not the answer you were looking for.
