Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You can’t be denied federal student loans because of your parent’s bad credit. Be sure you visit the federal’s website (www.fafsa.ed.gov). Also, there are several websites that you can visit where you can apply for scholarships….FREE. scholarships.com and fastweb.com are both legitimate sites. Also, talk to your financial aid officer for help with campus scholarships, work-study and grants. Do you work? If so, your employer may also help with tuition reimbursement. Please be aware of scammers and sites that sound too good to be true. Good luck!

If your parents were denied for the Federal PLUS Loan, then take this letter to your financial aid office. They will up your limit to $7,500 instead of $3,500.

Also look at other altenatives than loans. Try to find some scholarships through your financial aid office. In addition see if you qualify for any grants. There is also a work study program. If none of these options work for you then see if your school can set you up a payment plan.

Also look into workstudy on campus. You may also want to see if you can find a patron or an organization within the community that will assist you in paying for your education–sponsoring you so to speak. Check out info re: this with your local research librarian. Contact Rotary International. Contact any organization that assists people w/ your ethnic origin.

If the school offers no other assistance besides the federal fin aid, then I would find a cheaper school.
