Wisconsin has unique laws governing assistance programs: medical assistance, foodstamps, child care assistance, and, WIC. You can use this calculator to figure which of these programs you will qualify for. It will also tell you if you qualify for free school lunches for your kids.

https://access.wisconsin.gov/

The link will tell you what you qualify for, and, if you are interested will give you phone numbers on who to contact after the “results” page.

Wisconsin has several Family Resource Centers. The people in these places are competent and capable of helping you find the services you need (whether they be economic, social, educational). Without knowing more specifically what you are looking for, it is hard to tell you. Headstarts here a good. In Rock County, Our Project Ahead (for single parents that are students) is great. We offer a Wingspan program at Blackhawk Tech (Janesville) that specializes in helping women that are single parents. IF you don’t have a GED, we offer an Even Start program for parents of children under 7. Section 8 (if you are intending on applying for housing assistance), has waiting lists that can be short- or long- depending upon the community you are moving to. Energy Assistance is available to offset the high heating costs to low income families in Wisconsin. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information, or, if I can help with anything! Good luck, and, I hope you enjoy it here!
