How do you feel about 1 million illegal immigrants qualifying for Pell grants?

If the Dream act passes you’ll be competing with them next year.

This is something that is being discussed in the immigration section, but I’d like to hear what current college students have to say.

I was not aware of this, I am not a college student, and I

will contact my congressman, and State senator. Allowing a certain percentage of grants would be good, but if my US born daughter has to work her way through college without any grants, so can the immigrants!

The voting is going on NOW, so please if you have issues

with this bill email, fax, or call your Representatives as soon as possible. (Within 24 hours.)

Under the Dream Act, illegal immigrants would NOT be eligible for a Pell Grant. Stafford loans and Federal Work Study, yes, but not the Pell Grant. See the Library of Congress link below.

Of course anything like this (or at least similar to this) is absolutely wrong in my books because of its unfairness, and this is coming from a Hispanic male who came to America the legal way and took 13 years for me to become a legal U.S. citizen.

In fact I’ll never forget being in high school and speaking with a counselor there about my upcoming college, and he showed to me a list of scholarships forms that were specifically set up for Hispanic students. I took them but quickly threw them away because I have such a staunch disagreement when it comes to getting things for free due to my race. Even if it benefits me I feel it is wrong because I wouldn’t have done anything special to earn them. Just the color of my skin would’ve obtained me those scholarships.

Same applies here. I don’t feel this is right, but if something like this passes through then in a “necessary evil” kind of way it at least educates these illegal immigrants and gets them good paying jobs, instead of say becoming a drain on social welfare programs like WIC and CHIP.

I do not like it.

In the short term illegal immigrants pay into the Social Security system which is almost bankrupt.

They also provide recruits for the military.

The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, is part of the stalled package of proposals that many in Congress are seeking to resurrect. The proposal, applicable to an estimated 750,000 undocumented residents of military age, stipulates that those who arrived in the United States before age 16, graduated from high school, and meet other qualifications could immediately enter the path to citizenship in exchange for at least two years’ service in the armed forces.

But not all of them pay taxes.

Illegal Immigration negatively affects American Workers, the Unemployed, and Unions.

It also hurts the Environment by increasing Urban Sprawl.

Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Hunter have the most conservative voting records on immigration.

Of these three, Ron Paul has the best chance of winning the Primary election.

Paul’s campaign has almost 5 times as much money to spend as Tancredo.

Ron Paul has stated that he wants very strong borders and he was appalled that our government had taken border guards off of our borders to send them to Iraq.

http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/haman3.html

This is his six point plan:

Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.

Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.

No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.

No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.

End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.

Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.

The NAFTA Superhighway might be another significant threat to American borders.

that would seriously piss me off, and I might have to go pick off a couple of the crapheads with my rifle. JUST KIDDING!

but seriously that bugs me, they come to our country, take untrained jobs away from our economy, and now they have the nerve to take MY money from me? The Pell is the only way I stay in college!

seriously, we should just friggin take over Mexico and intate our own economy, improve the jacked up government there, and send all the beaners back south

living in AZ most of my life, illegals tend to piss me off

If were indeed true, and there were verified statistics to back it up, I’d say it’s not right since they don’t pay the taxes that fund this. However I highly doubt the statement and/or validity of the statistic quoted.

I’d rather have a bunch of well-educated immigrants getting jobs to support themselves than breaking into my home to get my appliances because they are too stupid to get a job. I guess we need to start tightening up on the borders, so there aren’t as many illegal ones getting in.
