fafsa question on my EFC?
Favorite Answer
When you complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) it generates an EFC (Expected Family Contribution) that schools use in conjunction with their COA (Cost of Attendance) to determine what type of aid to award you.
If your EFC has been changed from 0 to 60, you’re still in good shape. You should be getting a corrected SAR (Student Aid Report) and that will tell you (if your school hasn’t already) if you are eligible for the Pell grant. If you are eligible for Pell, then you may also be eligible for the ACG/SMART.
You should talk to a financial aid officer at your school for further information. Good luck!
Don’t sweat the change, it happens all the time. Better the fin aid office correct it than the dept of ed catch the mistake later and make you pay something back because the info was incorrect.
It is the portion of your tuition they expect you to pay.
