Do you know anyone that lives off the student loan system?

This drives me crazy…when an able bodied person under the age of 30 will say they are too busy to work because they take 2 or 3 college classes and then this person lets their spouse work to support them and their family? Do you think that because they take more loan money so they can live comfortably that they are abusing the student loan system?

I work 50 hours a week and take 12 college credits each quarter. Is that normal?

I’d say “normal” is a useless word here, because everybody learns differently. I’m in much the same situation right now–taking two or three college classes (though it averages out to being 12-15 credits because they’re block classes) and working part time. My spouse works full time.

However to me, college is not merely about getting passing grades. I’m here to LEARN the material. I don’t consider an A good enough–I need to finish each class knowing as much (if not more) about the subject matter than the instructor does. That means I spend at least five hours a day, studying, reading, re-reading, testing, questioning, etc.

On the other hand, if you’re talking about a C-student who lives off the student loan system, then yes–he’s an abomination.

I dont think this is abuse for a student to live off thier student loans, that is what they are for. If you work 50 hours a week, then you dont need student loans.

However, if you are enrolled full time in college, 12-15 credits, you should be putting in 40 hours of study time outside of classes. For many people this is not an easy task.

If you are able to keep up your school work, and work 50 hours a week aside from it, then great, you wont have a 50K or more debt when you graduate. Be thankful.

Now, if someone is living on student loans, and not keeping up thier school work, on the other hand, yes, they are taking advantage.

I do…I am 45…not under 30. In the past, I have worked 2 part-time jobs while in school. I had no time for myself. Every day of the week was taken unless I requested a day off which I ususally did to go see my kids. After a year of this, I decided to take out extra school loans & quit my jobs. I have been taking 15-19 hours of classes. It feels weird not working! Uh…my loans are loans…they do have to be paid back. I am in debt & feel college will pay off…even at my age.

I do live comfortably. I budget. I am very conservative. It can be done. I have a 3.8 gpa.

there is NOTHING wrong with living on your student loans. GOOD 4 YOU if you can pay your way to college and NOT have to take out alone that you will have to pay back alot of interst on.

Alot of people have kids, and are going full time like me. If you pull out a private student loan 20 -30 k each year you go to school thats more or equal to working full time. You will just have to pay it all back with interest after you graduate. ALOT of loan companies dont even contact yoru school or send them the money. You send them proof your going to school. and thats all that they need. they will send you a check for the amount you get approved for. I GET 20 k .. was approved for 23 k.

next private student loans

education one

all of those do not send FUNDS TO YOUR SCHOOL, they are sent DIRECTLY to YOU
